Mid Season Premiere Dates

The first half of the 2012/2013 TV season is already over.  It’s really hard to believe!  So with the first half over and the holiday season almost complete, that only means one thing…it’s mid season time!

I added a new tab to the top of the main page here that lists all the premiere dates.  As more dates come out, I’ll update on this tab.

NBC Moves Up The Premieres of Go On and The New Normal

Most everyone in the world has already seen the premieres of Go On and The New Normal, either during the olympics or on-line.  So NBC decided to make a move.

Instead of “premiering” these shows on their normal time slots of Tuesday 9pm (Go On) and 9:30pm (The New Normal, both shows will premiere their pilots Monday Sept 10th at 10pm (Go On) and 10:30pm (The New Normal.)

I don’t like this.  I mean it’s not catastrophic or anything, but I’m not a fan.  These are new comedies on NBC you are trying to develop.  And let’s face it, NBC hasn’t done a great job in this area (or many areas) in recent years.  So why premiere a show on an off night, at a different time, one day earlier?  Why?  There are still people who haven’t watched these shows and if they tune in on Tuesday, because that’s when you’ve been telling them to watch for about a month now, and see the second episode and not the first, it may annoy your viewers.   Like I said, is this a HUGE deal, no.  But I’m trying to understand the reasoning.

I can see if they were planning to premiere the show a week later or two weeks later and they want to get a jump on the competition by moving to a time where many shows aren’t premiering.  Since the big premiere week is the 24th, if Go On and The New Normal were originally scheduled to premiere at that time, I can see wanting to bump it up.   But they’re moving up one day.  HUH?  Are they that desperate to get The Voice lead in?  Is that the strategy here?    But isn’t The Voice results show the very next night, right before the Tuesday block of Go On and The New Normal?  I’m confused.   But this is NBC so should it surprise me that they make a head scratching decision?  Not really.

So for those of you ready to watch Go On and The New Normal for the first time this Tuesday, you better change that.  Because they are now on Monday.   But still check in on Tuesday because new episodes of both will run on Tuesday in their regular time slots.

2012/2013 Premiere Dates

For those of you who don’t want the complete Fall Preview and want an easier spot to find premiere dates, the 2012/2013 Premiere Dates tab at the top of the home screen has been updated.

Just like last year, I broke this out by network.  Let me know if you would rather see it by DATE vs. NETWORK.  Majority of responses win!!

AMC Announces Premiere Dates for Mad Men, The Killing, and The Walking Dead

I’m sure this announcement from TV Line comes with mixed emotions from the fan bases.

The long-awaited return of Mad Men’s Season 5 hits the air Sunday March 25th.  Mad Men has been off the air since October 2010.  The usual spring premiere was pushed back to a fall premiere which was then delayed until after 2012.  It’s quite strange for a show this strong to be on hiatus for as long as Mad Men has, but I’m sure the fans won’t care at this point.  We are just so happy Don Draper and crew is back!!  Now I just need to finish the 4th season before March!   I think I can do it.

The Walking Dead has its Season 2 debut on Thursday, Feb 2nd.  I don’t watch this show, but I’m hoping Netflix has it because I would like to start watching it.  It’s gotten great write ups so I would like to check it out.  For those of you who watch it, should I check it out?

Finally, the show that brought a fan base to its knees last summer, The Killing returns on AMC on Sunday April 1st.  I was one of those people who was livid at the way The Killing handled its last few episodes and the way their head writer Veena Sud was so condescending to the fan base in her explanation as to why Rosie’s murder wasn’t solved at the end of the first season.  I am beyond curious to see the ratings for the show in its second season.  I’m still torn as to whether or not I am going to tune in but I know many fans who said they are done with the show and they’ll see who the killer was at some point on-line.

Are you going to be tuning into The Killing season two?  Are you getting your martini and scotch glasses polished for the return of Mad Men?

Game of Thrones Season Two Premiere Date!!!

I am sooooooo excited!!!!  Game of Thrones is coming back and it finally has a premiere date.   Game of Thrones is back on HBO Sunday April 1st at 9pm for it’s 10 episode season.  I really wish these were 12 episodes per season but beggars can’t be choosers.

In other HBO knows, “Girls” will premiere Sunday April 15th at 9:30pm.  ”Veep” staring Julia Louis Dreyfus will premiere Sunday April 22nd at 10pm.   Girls is about a group of girls in their 20s and will highlight all the funny and crazy things girls endure at that point in their life.  It stars a bunch of people I have never heard of…Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams…and I have absolutely no interest in this show.  Veep stars Dreyfus as a former senator who is now the Vice President of United States and her job is not exactly what she thought it would be.  Talk about vague.  Aren’t these show descriptions becoming more and more formulaic?  Veep also stars a solid cast including Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, and Reid Scott.  This I will be checking out.

I was hoping to read the first two books in the series to catch up before the premiere.  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.  No biggie.  But I can’t wait for the premiere.  It feels like forever since we last saw Daenerys Targaryen emerging from the fire with her baby dragons surrounding her.   Good God I can’t wait!!!!

WEDNESDAY NOV 23RD

9:30pm I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER (New Series)

Excuse me FOX but are you not premiering Bones until NOVEMBER 3RD?????   Are you seriously trying to torture us?   I thought Bones was going to premiere during their regular time (around Sept) and then take a brief hiatus because of Emily Deschanel’s real life pregnancy.  I didn’t know it wasn’t going to premiere until NOVEMBER!!!   Ugh.  I guess it makes sense with FOX having the World Series that if you premiere Bones in Sept then break in October for the WS then come back for a few episodes in Nov and then go on a huge break, it could be even more frustrating for Bones fans.  Now, they can premiere in Nov and have a shorter layoff time until new episodes come back after the holiday break.  So maybe it will be better in the long run.  I still don’t like waiting that long, but I get it.

Also Simon Cowell’s The X Factor get a big 2 night premiere (really and you couldn’t find 1 hour to keep The Chicago Code?)   Sorry, I digress.  But The X Factor gets it’s big premiere.  I won’t be tuning in but for those of you looking forward to it, you will have many hours over 2 nights to take it all in.

I’m really looking forward to checking out the new shows New Girl and Terra Nova.  Teenage Daughter I don’t know about but you know me, I’ll watch the first three episodes and see how it goes.
