I am a little behind on this show, in terms of blogging but I have been keeping up with it. This show gets funnier and funnier every week. While this week’s show wasn’t as gut busting as last week’s, it was still terrific on so many levels.
At this point we see that Beverly and Sean are having 2 very different experiences here in L.A. Sean is making friends by default and having some fun while Beverly is left by herself most of the time and hasn’t really found any means of socialization yet. Until this episode! I feel so bad for Beverly. She is trying so hard to put on a brave face but this isn’t what she signed up for. First the asshole producer, Merc, promises her things he doesn’t come through on. Second, the show she thought she would be writing and putting together, isn’t that show anymore and in fact she doesn’t really like it at all. Third, this isn’t the cast she wanted and is trying to work with them but they aren’t making it easy for her. Finally, the cast and crew, for the most part, go to Sean because they don’t want to deal with her so he is developing the connections and she is left alone. It’s truly horrible. Strangely, she is finally able to make a connection with someone in the mostly unlikely of people…Carol. Carol notices that Bev isn’t really very happy. So she goes to pull her aside to talk to her. Knowing where this conversation goes, I wonder how much of this is because she really needs someone to talk to more than Beverly. Bev isn’t so sure about this but they start talking (and smoking a joint) and all kinds of information starts to flow! For instance we learn Sean was married before when he met Beverly and they started an affair while he was still married. This allows Carol to open up more about the affair she is having with Merc (which we knew about from Episode Two) but we see a different side to Carol…a funny but scary side! She talks about how Merc was going to leave his wife but then she went blind. Carol felt guilty so she started doing research in order to find a cure for what happened to her….you know ’cause when she gets her sight back, Merc can leave her for Carol! It’s hard to be disgusted with Carol because her delivery is so darn sweet, how can you be mad at her? I think she’s also a good person who is very much alone like Beverly. So it’s nice, in a weird way, that they have this connection (along with their hatred of Morning Randolph) to start a friendship because I think both ladies could really use a friend right now.
While that’s going on, Sean is out with Matt and Morning at a rape benefit. Interesting enough Matt says he only has one ticket and that’s why he invited just Sean and not Beverly, but we learn later that he did have another invite, but it went to Morning. The reason for this, he senses chemistry there and wanted to give them a chance to connect. Sean’s facial expression are always so freakin’ hilarious!!! Sean doesn’t know whether to hug Matt or punch him in the face. I get the sense that Sean is very much in love with Beverly but does find Morning attractive and the attention and flirting she throws his way, appealing. There are many times when Morning is throwing herself at Sean and Matt is doing everything he can to push them together. But at the end of the evening, Sean decides to go home to his wife, where he belongs and I really believe he wants to be.
Beverly is at home chowing down on Chinese food since she has a significant case of the munchies!! Sean comes in and she asks how his time was. He tells her about the old PA he bumped into that is written a screen play and his movie is being filmed and starring Matt Damon and Keira Knightly. Sean and Bev are floored by this. Happy for their old PA but very reflective on what that means regarding their careers. She asks who else was there and he lists everyone, except for Morning. Now Bev knows she was there because Carol told her. When she asks if Morning was there, he confirms that she was but forgot (not very convincingly.) It escalates into a fight that is so realistic it’s scary. Have you ever been having a conversation with your spouse or significant other and a perfectly simple conversation all of a sudden takes a turn you didn’t expect and the next thing you know, you are fighting? That’s what happened here. She started asking him about why he didn’t tell her Morning was there and it evolved into how there was some flirting but he ended up coming home to Beverly. I know exactly what he was trying to say but it sooooo came out wrong. Beverly asks him if he wants some sort of medal for doing what he should and should WANT to do anyway. He storms off to bed. Later when they are both in bed, Bev is asleep but he is awake. He gets out of bed and then goes to the kitchen. He starts watching the sex tape of Morning that Matt told him about at the party and is masturbating to it. Meanwhile, the camera pans to Beverly standing behind him watching while tearing up. I am instantly heartbroken for her. While we all know that happens when we aren’t looking, you never want to SEE it. Especially when it is happening using a video of a woman you work with and are subsequently suspicious of in regards to your husband. And by the way, wouldn’t you think you would be a little more careful and secluded when partaking? I mean that video was so loud and he was right in the middle of his kitchen!!! I would think he would want a bit more privacy if for no other reason, God forbid his wife wakes up and walks in on him…which is exactly what happens!!! Dumb ass.
We only have two episodes left and it looks like E6 gets us back the opening of the pilot when Bev and Matt get in the accident after Bev walked out on Sean. I laughed my ass off when they showed next week’s preview (which also showed what we already saw in the pilot in the opening scene) because when it first aired, and Bev accused Sean of wanking, I had to ask my husband what wanking was because I had no idea. I figured it was British slang for something. He didn’t know either. Well, now I know what wanking is! Thanks Bev!! And now I know why she was so pissed in the episode.
So what do you think happens? I would have to think that it all gets worked out and Sean and Bev stay in L.A. so we can have more seasons of Episodes!!! I hope that’s true. I also hope moving forward they could at least get to Dexterville where they show at least 12 episodes vs. just 7.
