RECAP & REVIEW: True Blood “I Wish I Was the Moon” S4 E6

Well.   That was quite an ending to tonight’s True Blood.   Eric and Sookie!!!!!!   Finally.   I knew as soon as Eric told Bill that he hopes they get back together so she can be happy, that Bill wasn’t going to kill him.    I just hope this isn’t a trick by Eric.  I don’t think it is because of what happened to Pam and what happened in the episode tonight.  If this only happened to Eric, I would have stronger concerns.   But this has been a long time coming!!!   I know Bill/Sookie fans are livid right now and I can appreciate that.   And you could argue that this is not a true Eric/Sookie pairing because we aren’t seeing the true Eric Northman.   But I don’t care.  I love it!

When Eric busted into Sookie place to see him and Sookie going at it, I thought all hell was going to break loose.   But then Eric got the upper hand on Bill.  Which makes sense.  Eric is older than Bill which would make him the stronger vampire but Bill is the King.  No matter though because Sookie encouraged them to stop.  Once she told Eric that Bill was his King, he immediately retreated and apologized for his actions.  Bill was definitely taken aback by this.  He’s never seen Eric like this.   But he still believes it could be a manipulation.

He takes him into custody and Sookie is fired up about it.  She really lets Bill have it about why he is really doing this and she’s 99% right.  Bill is doing this for selfish reasons because he is hurt and he hates Eric.  But the 1% I give Bill is that you do have to leave room for the possibility that this is all a fake or Eric could be a risk for people’s safety because we don’t know how he will react to this spell that’s been placed on him.  All these reasons are why Bill bans Sookie from his property and instructs his people to arrest her for trespassing if she is on his property (I don’t know how he has the power for that but ok) and why he calls Nan asking for a warrant for a true death for Eric.   And he gets it.

Bill is standing outside his mansion and his goons bring Eric out for his penalty.  As Eric kneels down in front of his King, he is very calm.  Bill tells him why he is doing this and Eric says he completely understands.  He doesn’t want to die but he understands why Bill has to do what he has to do.  This is also when he tells Bill that he hopes he gets back with Sookie so that she can be happy.  This was all Bill needed to hear and he takes the silver stake and raises it into the air.  I thought this is where the episode would end or leave of with this story line but it didn’t.   As Sookie is looking for Jason in the woods, she comes across Eric and you can tell she is so happy he’s out.  He tells her the King let him go and they starting kissing which leads to them getting down and dirty (literally) in the woods while Bill is left to sulk on his porch.

Jason and Jessica

Jason is convinced he is going to turn into a were-panther.  So much so, that he chains himself to his bed.  But when Sookie comes to see him and he explains to her what is going on, she tells him that handcuffs won’t do it because when he turns, he’ll slip right out of them.   Typical Jason, not thinking everything through!  I love him!!  So he freaks out and Sookie promises to stay with him and help him through this.  They go outside and have a few beers and when Sookie goes to get another round, Jason takes off.  Which leads Sookie to grabbing a shot gun and going to find him.

Jason is in the woods alone and he is really freaking out and scared out of his mind.  Jessica senses this and takes off in the middle of Tara placing a food order at Merlotte’s.   She meets up with Jason and when he wonders why she is there, she explains that since he drank her blood, she can always sense when he is in trouble and she will be there to help him.  They have a pretty nice scene together and Jessica refuses to leave Jason because she remembers when she turned and it was the hardest night of her life.

Luckily for Jason, he doesn’t turn and when Sookie bumps into Alcide and Debbie heading to a meeting, they tell her that a human can’t become a were-anything by a bite.  It’s hereditary.  So one of his parents would had to have been one.   But when Jason doesn’t turn, he seems slightly disappointed and Jessica notices this.  He talks about how everyone around him is special except him and while weird, this would have made him special.  Jessica then lists all the reasons why Jason is already special (although I don’t know if sleeping with all the pretty girls in Bon Temps is one of them.)  We start to see the beginnings of Jessica and Jason falling for one another.   This is not going to be good.  Hoyt is Jason’s BFF and Jessica is his girlfriend.  While this could destroy many relationships, I do like the chemistry between them.

Sam and Tommy

That Tommy is such an asshole.  Every time Sam opens up to him and tries to help, he continues to screw Sam over.  In fairness to Tommy, if you don’t know that you now have the ability to be a skin-shifter (since he killed one of his parents) that can be some pretty freaky stuff to deal with.  After talking to Sam he stares at himself in the mirror hating himself for what he did and starts pounding on his head.  The next thing you know, he shifts into Sam!  Talk about going to another dimension of crazy!!  But I have to admit that the scene with Sookie was hilarious.  I wish the real Sam would do that!!  Because it’s so true.  Sookie hasn’t worked at Merlotte’s all season and barely worked there at all last season.  So why exactly does she still have a job?  Well Tommy-Sam fired her for wanting to take a day off from work and kicked her out.  It was the first time I ever liked Tommy.

Later, when he is back at Sam’s, Luna comes over to see the real Sam and Tommy-Sam tries to get her to go away.  But when she drops her dress and asks him to make love to her, all bets were off.   They have sex and while Luna is talking about how great it was, Tommy-Sam is really struggling and he kicks her out.  He’s really nasty to her as well which is completely uncalled for, but that’s Tommy for you.   Once she leaves, he runs over the sink area and he starts to shift back to Tommy.   Then he pukes into the sink.   When Sam gets back from Terry and Arlene’s, he sees Tommy on the floor with a pile of puke next to him and his trying to revive him.  I’m not sure if Tommy is dead or not, but I hope so because I am ready to be done with that character!

Terry and Arlene

Looks like baby Mikey, or some mysterious woman, set fire to Terry and Arlene’s.   The whole house went up in flames.  Before they got out, they were looking all over for Mikey but they couldn’t find him.  They thought he died in the fire.  But when they turned around, he was with her other children and her kids told her that he was already outside.   How did that happen?    Looks like the mystery lady in the trees may have had something to do with that!   HHHHHMMMMMM.   I can’t wait to see where this is going.

Jesus and Lafayette

They are still in Mexico with the crazy grandfather.   The grandfather pulls off a ritual that includes using a rattlesnake to bite Jesus and raise Tio Lucio (I think that was his name) from the dead and put his spirit into Lafayette so he can save Jesus.  Whatever.  I’m just going with the flow with this SL for now.

Marnie now seems to be possessed by Antonia’s spirit which seems to make her very powerful.  Antonia is one pissed off woman who is on a mission to destroy all the vampires she can.  Seeing her back story (she was tortured and raped by vampires) who can really blame her.  But Marnie is now a huge threat if she has the power of Antonia inside her guiding her powers and spells.

We are exactly halfway through this season of True Blood fans.   What are your thoughts so far?  I’m enjoying this season more so than last season and the whole witch storyline is really fascinating to me.  Tara’s story I could care less about which is why I didn’t even bring it up.  Lafayette and Jesus are starting to bore me but they are tied up in the witch SL so I would like to see a little more connection there to understand what is happening.  And while baby Mikey’s SL wasn’t doing much for me, I really want to know what the hell is going on there and does it have any connection with the witches at all.  We shall see!!!

Random TV News

Franklin and Bash

F&B has been renewed for 10 episodes next summer on TNT.   I’m slightly surprised by this because the ratings have not been good.  They haven’t been awful but they haven’t been lighting the world on fire.    I have a bunch of episodes on my DVR so at some point I may check them out.  And since I have dropped HawthoRNe from my summer viewing schedule, I may pick up F&B.

Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s is doing a time jump for Season 8.   Not really.   It’s five days after the Season 7 finale.  So I was a little taken aback when I saw one website promote it as a “time jump.”   Anyhoo, two major story lines will still be going on with one having a solution at the end of the season premiere….the McDreamys are still having problems from the fallout from Meredith tampering with the Alzheimer’s trial and Cristina is still debating whether or not she should keep her baby.   For you Derek and Meredith fans hoping their issues would be solved at the end of the episode, sorry to disappoint you but that isn’t the storyline having a solution.  That would be Cristina.   At this point, five days later, she still hasn’t made up her mind on what she wants to do.   But by the end of the premiere, she makes a decision.  I know SL like this are always hot, sensitive topics for fans, but I really like SL like this.  It brings so much interest to the show and I am really curious to see where Grey’s goes with this.

In other news, Sarah Drew (new Chief Resident Dr. April Kepner) is preggers in real life.   On the debate table right now is whether or not to write the pregnancy into the story.  In most instances, this wouldn’t be that much of an issue.   But in this character’s case, it’s a little different.  You see, April is still a virgin.   And the new chief resident.   Depending on how far along she is by the time filming starts and the season progresses, how will this be incorporated in?   It could fascinating to witness this girl who has held onto her virginity for so long now have to deal with an unplanned pregnancy and the new responsibility of being the chief resident.  Problem is, you are already dealing with one of those on the show…..Cristina Yang’s pregnancy.   Do they really want to have Cristina’s unplanned pregnancy story out there, because no matter what her decision, there will be fallout for weeks/months to come, with April’s unplanned pregnancy just beginning?   It wouldn’t make sense.   So my gut tells me, we will be seeing April hiding behind lots of plants and patients this season.

Hell on Wheels

AMC has announced a premiere date for its Civil War era show starring Anson Mount….November 6th.

Starz’s new series Boss, starring Kelsey Grammar has set a premiere date for October 21st.  Boss is about a ruthless Chicago Mayor (played by Grammar) who has been recently diagnosed with a debilitating disease.  This is a big change for Grammar who has been in the comedy realm for the last 15 years.  This show will really show the behind the scenes look at the mayor’s office in Chicago…the backdoor deals, the lying and manipulating that happens, and the lives affected by the decisions that are made.   It sounds fantastic and I am definitely checking it out.

Latest Casting News (For Me Anyway)

As I am getting caught up, you may be reading some news that has been out for a while but is new for me.   So guess what, we’re talking about it people!

Carrie Anne Moss has been cast as Gertrude Verbanski, as the woman in charge of Chuck and Sarah’s rival company who also becomes a potential love interest for Casey.

While I am all for Casey getting some lovin’ (finally), I was really hoping it was going to be with Alex’s mom and the former love of his life, Kathleen (played by Clare Carey.)   So that’s a little disappointing but I’m willing to give Moss’ character the benefit of the doubt.

The Firm

The final piece of casting for the midseason drama The Firm has taken place.  Molly Parker (of Deadwood fame) has been cast as Abby McDeere, Mitch’s wife, originated in the film by Jeanne Tripplehorn.   She joins Josh Lucas (Mitch McDeere, originated in the film by Tom Cruise), Juliette Lewis (Mitch’s crazy receptionist Tammy, originated in the film by Holly Hunter), and Callum Keith Rennie (Ray McDeere, Mitch’s troublesome brother, originated in the film by David Strathairn.)  The midseason premiere will pick up 10 years where the movie left off with Mitch and Abby starting their new lives in Washington, DC.

I am stoked for this show.  I loved the book (by John Grisham) and really enjoyed the movie.   So I am anxious to see what has transpired for the McDeere family and how they have rebuilt their life after the catastrophe that was Bendini, Lambert, & Locke.

CSI Miami

In what some fans are calling a “shocking” return casting decision by the show, Alana de la Garza is returning to CSI Miami.  How is that possible considering Mrs. Horatio Caine was killed at the end of Season 4?   I’m not sure.   The safe assumption is that it is in some sort of dream sequence or out-of-body experience for Horatio considering he was shot at the end of last season.

Alicia Coppola has been cast as Alexandra Leeds in the USA hit summer show, Suits.  Leeds is an old acquaintance of Harvey’s (Gabriel Macht) and her presence will drive him absolutely insane.  Whether or not that insanity level is of the bad, lawyering nature or the good, sexual nature, remains to be seen.  Either way, if she plays her typical character (currently she is playing the head of the Mai on The Nine Lives of Chloe King) that exudes intelligence, sexuality, fire, and trouble, it will be quite interesting to see those fireworks between her and Harvey.

A Gifted Man

Mike Doyle has been cast as Dr. Victor Lantz, who will be a recurring character, on the new fall show A Gifted Man on CBS.  Doyle is probably best known for his portrayal of forensic tech Ryan O’Halloran on L&O: SVU.

Odette Annable (Brothers & Sisters) has been cast on House for the upcoming 8th season as a series regular.   She will be filling the void left by Martha Masters (Amber Tamblyn) and Dr. Thirteen (Olivia Wilde.)   WIlde’s character will be on House but only briefly.   The show is still looking for a new Dean of Medicine.  They will be tough shoes to fill having been vacated by Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein.)   Stay tuned!

Blue Bloods

Looks like Jamie Reagan is getting a new partner.  But don’t worry Renzulli fans, he isn’t going anywhere.  Renzulli (Nick Turturro) has been promoted so he will still be around but as a result, Jamie is getting a new man in the streets.   Check that, a new woman in streets!   Monica Raymund (Lie to Me) has been cast as Lean Sosa, rookie cop who becomes Jamie new partner.   They did know each other from the academy but I get the impression they weren’t playing poker every Saturday night together.   I’m not as excited about this casting because I hated her character on Lie to Me.  But we’ll see how this goes on Blue Bloods.

Parks and Recreation

Patricia Clarkson (Six Feet Under) has been cast as Tammy 1, Ron Swanson’s (Nick Offerman) first wife.  His current wife is Tammy 2 (played by Megan Mullally.)

Once Upon A Time

One of my favorite actors in TV has just been cast on one of ABC’s new fall dramas.  David Anders (Sark from Alias) has been cast as a doctor on the mythological, fairy tale show.   I know I went back a few years referencing a show he was on but he will always be Sark to me.   But I guess I should have referenced his role on The Vampire Diaries as John Gilbert or Heroes as Adam Monroe or 24 as Josef Bazhaev.   Either way, the guy is awesome!!

Also cast was Paula Marshall as Malificent.  Malificent is probably one of the scariest villains in Disney history (just ask my husband)…Sleeping Beauty’s evil queen.  I don’t’ know if that’s bad luck for the show because while I like Marshall, every show she is on as a regular, the show gets canceled.  The cast and crew might want to keep their resumes ready to go!

Where the Hell Have You Been?

(Taps on the glass.)  Nothing is really happening so she peers out with a puzzled look.  (Bangs on the glass and comes close to breaking it.)  Really trying to get the attention of her readers and hopes it’s working.

Hey everyone.  Yes it’s me.  I know I’ve been gone a while.  I also know that July has been a scarce month for me.  If you listened to one of my podcasts you may have heard about my brief talk about my real job being insane lately.   Many people say how busy their jobs are and they would most likely be correct.  For me, my job has gone to epic proportions of craziness.   Have any of you ever gone through a company reorganization?  If you haven’t, let me tell you, it’s incredibly stressful.  People waiting to hear whether or not they have jobs.   Once you find out you have a job, you are waiting to learn what your new role is…are you getting promoted or demoted, are you increasing or decreasing your responsibility, are you moving to a new market or are you staying where you are at?  The ambiguities are endless.  I feel very blessed because I still have my job.  There are many wonderful people I have worked with over the years that weren’t so fortunate.  But as the intensity of the behind the scenes collaborations and decisions are winding down, the real frenzied work is just about to begin.  So please bear with me as I may still be slightly behind the curve but I will be keeping up as best I can until I start settling into my new role at work.

RECAP & REVIEW: True Blood “Me and the Devil” S4 E5

Wow there is a lot going on with True Blood right now.  One of my complaints about True Blood is that I think the cast is just too damn big for a show that only runs 12 episodes a season.  There is too much going on and too many storylines to keep track of.   Therefore many times, I find myself FF through stuff I don’t care about because I want to get back to the stories that interest me.  So far this season, more stories are interesting me than not but let’s look at all that is going on:

Sookie and Eric

I have always liked Sookie better with Eric.  I’ve never been a huge Sookie/Bill fan because they’re boring.   But this is a great way to get them together in a very realistic way after all the crap Eric has pulled.  Eric is still at a loss for who he really is since the witch/spiritual conduit/whatever she is put the spell on him.  Sookie is seeing a much softer side to Eric that she always knew was there but for some reason, he never showed (in her opinion.)  As a result, she is starting to fall for him.  There was always a physical attraction (whether she wants to admit it or not) but the emotional connection was never there for Sookie because of the issues between her and Eric and because of her relationship with Bill and his with Eric.   Now, all of that is gone, and she is finally free to express what she has been suppressing for a while.   For a minute, I started to wonder if this is a trick Eric is playing on Sookie so he can get closer to her, but I really don’t think so.   What will be interesting to see, is how their relationship holds up when the real Eric returns.   That is assuming that #1, the relationship continues and #2 that real Eric comes back.  And I REALLY can’t wait to see the Bill/Eric/Sookie showdown next week when Bill shows up at Sookie’s house.

Bill and Pam

Bill and Pam are working together to figure out how to control this witch.  According to Authority rules, they can’t kill her.  But they can’t allow her to keep destroying vampires the way she is.  Bill tries to reason with her (through glamouring of course) to get the real truth from her and he finds out that this woman is really in the dark about what is happening.  So he and Pam are confused as to what to do because they really aren’t sure what is happening.  The call the other four sheriffs to try to formula a plan and as things start to get heated, Pam loses it for a moment and spills the beans on what has happened to Eric and where he is.  Oh Pam!   Your face may be falling off but your brain should still be in tact!!!  Needless to say, Bill takes off in a huff.

Bill also decides to glamour Portia due to his recent discovery that they are related.   Apparently Portia doesn’t get turned off by incest and in fact has done tons of research on why it really isn’t that big a deal.   Come on, let’s all say it together….eeeeeeeeeewwwwwww!!!!   Luckily Bill feels the same way and glamours her to be afraid of him, thus ending their sexual relationship.

Jason, Jessica, and Hoyt

Jason has escaped and is starting to heal thanks to Jessica’s blood.  As a result, he starts having some crazy sex dreams about her that also include Hoyt.   Jason is one of my favorite characters and has always brought a great amount of levity to a sometimes dark show.  He cracks me up and this scene was hilarious.   Having said that, I hope this storyline with those weird people are over.  Something tells me no and we’ll have to see what happens to him when the moon is full.   I hope he doesn’t become a panther because then almost everyone will be something and I like Jason being normal.

Jessica and Hoyt are continuing to have problems.   Even though she glamoured him into not remembering her tryst with the boy at Fangtasia, she still remembers it.   So they have a slight distance between them that I think will get harder and harder to overcome as the show moves forward.  I really like Jess and Hoyt together, I just don’t see how they are going to last.

Tara, Lafayette, and Jesus

These guys are pissed.  They went to the witch lady (with Pam) to help overturn Eric’s curse.  Instead of that happening, she placed another curse, except this time, Pam was the recipient.  So instead of helping them, she is creating more and more enemies in the vampire community that connect with Tara, Lafayette, and Jesus because of their connection with the witch and being around her at the time the curses were placed.    Feeling like they have no place else to go, Lafayette and Jesus head to Mexico to meet up with Jesus crazy weird grandfather who may be able to help them by giving Jesus to some extra power needed to fight the vamps and possible the crazy witch lady.

Tara is ready to go back to New Orleans and her life with her lady friend, Naomi I think is her name.  But Naomi finds some letters with Tara’s real name on them and she wants to know who she’s been sleeping with for the last 6-8 months.  Tara goes to see Sookie to tell her the truth about her life in New Orleans and ask her advice on what to do to try to repair this.   Sookie tells her to go back there and tell her the truth and fight for her.  Meanwhile, Eric wakes up and comes upstairs while Tara and Sookie are talking and Tara freaks out!   Sookie tries to explain what is going but Tara is hearing none of it.  She yells at Sookie all the things Eric has done to her and Tara and basically tells the both of them to piss off while she takes off.

Arlene and Terry

They are both freaked out by baby Michael and think the ghost of Renee may be possessing him.   They bring in the pastor and Tara’s mom (who is now married to the pastor) to do a religious ritual to try to rid the baby and their house of Renee’s bad spirit.    I’m not on board with this storyline but I’m willing to give it a little more time to see where it goes.

The head of the werewolf pack in Shreveport came looking for Alcide wonder why he hasn’t registered with the pack yet and Alcide basically kicked him off his property.   Again, I don’t really care about this and it seemed strange to put this 2 minutes scene in this episode with everything else going on.   I don’t know why it just didn’t go into next week’s episode where it seems this SL starts to expand.

Sam and Tommy

We learned last week that Melinda, Tommy’s mom, set him up so Joe Lee can trap him into dog fighting again.  Tommy pretended to fall limp and when Joe Lee walked away, Tommy attacked him.  Of course Melinda defends Joe Lee and she starts going after Tommy so he will leave Joe Lee alone.   In the end, after both Joe Lee and Melinda have attacked him, Tommy gets the upper hand and ends up killing Joe Lee (yeah!!) and his mother.   His mother was not intentional and he was heartbroken over it.  I hate to say it but I’m glad.  I thought this SL was finished last season so to bring it back made me roll my eyes.  I’m glad it was only back for about 10 minutes.   Of course Tommy now doesn’t know what to do so he goes to Sam for help.   Sam decides to help him but not before Andy Bellefleur tries to stop their van.   Sam knows the bodies and Tommy are in the back so he tries to fend off Andy but it doesn’t work.  Andy goes to open the back and when he does, Tommy has shifted into a gator primed to attack.  Sam tells him he was just bringing him to the swamp and Andy allows him to move along.   They dump the bodies and before they leave, Sam hurls some marshmallows into the swamp so the gators would come after the sugary treats and therefore Joe Lee and Melinda.  Who knew gators liked marshmallows?   You learn something new everyday!

See, I wasn’t kidding about how much went on!  It was a solid episode but I do wish they would trim the cast down.   Already looking forward to next week!!!
