Cougar Town Returns!!! It’s About Flipping Time.

After the disaster that was Work It, ABC has finally stopped sniffing glue and put Cougar Town back on the schedule.  Cougar Town returns Tuesday February 14th…the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day!   Which is the dumbest holiday on the planet but that’s another story.

Woo hoo!!!  Penny Can!!!!  Big Joe (oops sorry Big Joe died).  Big Carl and the cul-de-sac crew is back and not a moment too soon.  The new comedies this year were awful and it’s about time a real comedy was back on the air.

If you need to find me, you know where I’ll be on Tuesday Feb 14th at 8:30pm.

AMC Announces Premiere Dates for Mad Men, The Killing, and The Walking Dead

I’m sure this announcement from TV Line comes with mixed emotions from the fan bases.

The long-awaited return of Mad Men’s Season 5 hits the air Sunday March 25th.  Mad Men has been off the air since October 2010.  The usual spring premiere was pushed back to a fall premiere which was then delayed until after 2012.  It’s quite strange for a show this strong to be on hiatus for as long as Mad Men has, but I’m sure the fans won’t care at this point.  We are just so happy Don Draper and crew is back!!  Now I just need to finish the 4th season before March!   I think I can do it.

The Walking Dead has its Season 2 debut on Thursday, Feb 2nd.  I don’t watch this show, but I’m hoping Netflix has it because I would like to start watching it.  It’s gotten great write ups so I would like to check it out.  For those of you who watch it, should I check it out?

Finally, the show that brought a fan base to its knees last summer, The Killing returns on AMC on Sunday April 1st.  I was one of those people who was livid at the way The Killing handled its last few episodes and the way their head writer Veena Sud was so condescending to the fan base in her explanation as to why Rosie’s murder wasn’t solved at the end of the first season.  I am beyond curious to see the ratings for the show in its second season.  I’m still torn as to whether or not I am going to tune in but I know many fans who said they are done with the show and they’ll see who the killer was at some point on-line.

Are you going to be tuning into The Killing season two?  Are you getting your martini and scotch glasses polished for the return of Mad Men?

Game of Thrones Season Two Premiere Date!!!

I am sooooooo excited!!!!  Game of Thrones is coming back and it finally has a premiere date.   Game of Thrones is back on HBO Sunday April 1st at 9pm for it’s 10 episode season.  I really wish these were 12 episodes per season but beggars can’t be choosers.

In other HBO knows, “Girls” will premiere Sunday April 15th at 9:30pm.  “Veep” staring Julia Louis Dreyfus will premiere Sunday April 22nd at 10pm.   Girls is about a group of girls in their 20s and will highlight all the funny and crazy things girls endure at that point in their life.  It stars a bunch of people I have never heard of…Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams…and I have absolutely no interest in this show.  Veep stars Dreyfus as a former senator who is now the Vice President of United States and her job is not exactly what she thought it would be.  Talk about vague.  Aren’t these show descriptions becoming more and more formulaic?  Veep also stars a solid cast including Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, and Reid Scott.  This I will be checking out.

I was hoping to read the first two books in the series to catch up before the premiere.  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.  No biggie.  But I can’t wait for the premiere.  It feels like forever since we last saw Daenerys Targaryen emerging from the fire with her baby dragons surrounding her.   Good God I can’t wait!!!!

2012 Mid Season/Winter New Shows

I can’t believe it’s December 23rd already!!!  Where the hell did this year go?  I blinked and it was 8 days away from 2012.  Wow!  But while we say good-bye to 2011, you know what it’s time to say hello to?    NEW SHOWS FOR THE WINTER/SPRING SEASON!!!!!!!

Here is my quick snapshot of what I am most looking forward to, what I’m not sure about, and what I could care less about:

Most Looking Forward to Watching:

  3. Napoleon Dynamite FOX 1/15 8:30pm
  4. Remodeled The CW 1/17 9pm
  5. Girls NO PREMIERE DATE YET

Holy crap that’s a lot of shows!!!   Dear Lord.  I still have 7 “Boss”, 10 “Dexter”, 13 “Survivor”, All “Grey’s” and 4 “Person of Interest” on my DVR I haven’t watched yet.  Not to mention, all the shows I regularly watch and adding these to it?  I seriously don’t know how reviewers do this all the time!  But then again, they probably have more than one person to review all these shows!!!

I have to make one comment.  I HATE when shows premiere a show at one time slot and day and then move it to it’s “real time slot and day of the week” after the premiere.    Why?   Just premiere the show at its regular time slot and its regular day.  I don’t get it.  Why confuse people?   Or in the case of Touch, let’s do a sneak peek in January but not come back with episode until mid March.   Huh?   How does that make any sense?  I know it’s not the biggest deal, but it’s a HUGE pet peeve of mine.  It’s hard enough with all these channels and shows for people to keep track of what show is on when.  So let’s make it even more challenging for a NEW show by moving it all over the place right out of the gate!   Ugh.

Well the first 8 shows, I will definitely watch and comment on.  But the rest, if I get to them, I get to them.  If something is really good, or really bad, then I will probably comment on it.  So stay tuned.

Next week I’ll dive more into each show in detail and let you know what I like and don’t.  But in the meantime, what about you?  What are you most interested in seeing or does nothing really strike your fancy too much?   Let me know!

2011 Fall TV Season Network by Network Previews

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!!

It’s hard to believe that it’s actually time to start previewing the fall season!  Technically, there are shows premiering this upcoming week!   Granted it’s Cops and Sunday Night Football, but a new premiere is a new premiere!!!   With it quickly approaching, it’s time to do the network by network breakdown of the fall season.  Here is how it is going to break out:

  1. Returning Shows (which will have their premiere dates in parentheses next to the title)
  2. New Shows (again with premiere dates)
  3. Shows I am Most Looking Forward To (Returning or New)
  4. Shows I am Losing Interest In But Will Give One More Season To
  5. Shows I Could Care Less About
  6. What To Watch For
  7. Early Thoughts on the New Shows
I am only doing the five major networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, CW.)  I’m not getting into Showtime, HBO, etc.  I’ll probably do a cable preview at some point because there are shows like Dexter and Episodes that I am looking forward to.   But that will come later.   If I can make it work, I will do a separate page at the top so you can find it easily.  But if it doesn’t work out, I’ll have all the posts on here.

Random TV News

Franklin and Bash

F&B has been renewed for 10 episodes next summer on TNT.   I’m slightly surprised by this because the ratings have not been good.  They haven’t been awful but they haven’t been lighting the world on fire.    I have a bunch of episodes on my DVR so at some point I may check them out.  And since I have dropped HawthoRNe from my summer viewing schedule, I may pick up F&B.

Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s is doing a time jump for Season 8.   Not really.   It’s five days after the Season 7 finale.  So I was a little taken aback when I saw one website promote it as a “time jump.”   Anyhoo, two major story lines will still be going on with one having a solution at the end of the season premiere….the McDreamys are still having problems from the fallout from Meredith tampering with the Alzheimer’s trial and Cristina is still debating whether or not she should keep her baby.   For you Derek and Meredith fans hoping their issues would be solved at the end of the episode, sorry to disappoint you but that isn’t the storyline having a solution.  That would be Cristina.   At this point, five days later, she still hasn’t made up her mind on what she wants to do.   But by the end of the premiere, she makes a decision.  I know SL like this are always hot, sensitive topics for fans, but I really like SL like this.  It brings so much interest to the show and I am really curious to see where Grey’s goes with this.

In other news, Sarah Drew (new Chief Resident Dr. April Kepner) is preggers in real life.   On the debate table right now is whether or not to write the pregnancy into the story.  In most instances, this wouldn’t be that much of an issue.   But in this character’s case, it’s a little different.  You see, April is still a virgin.   And the new chief resident.   Depending on how far along she is by the time filming starts and the season progresses, how will this be incorporated in?   It could fascinating to witness this girl who has held onto her virginity for so long now have to deal with an unplanned pregnancy and the new responsibility of being the chief resident.  Problem is, you are already dealing with one of those on the show…..Cristina Yang’s pregnancy.   Do they really want to have Cristina’s unplanned pregnancy story out there, because no matter what her decision, there will be fallout for weeks/months to come, with April’s unplanned pregnancy just beginning?   It wouldn’t make sense.   So my gut tells me, we will be seeing April hiding behind lots of plants and patients this season.

Hell on Wheels

AMC has announced a premiere date for its Civil War era show starring Anson Mount….November 6th.

Boss

Starz’s new series Boss, starring Kelsey Grammar has set a premiere date for October 21st.  Boss is about a ruthless Chicago Mayor (played by Grammar) who has been recently diagnosed with a debilitating disease.  This is a big change for Grammar who has been in the comedy realm for the last 15 years.  This show will really show the behind the scenes look at the mayor’s office in Chicago…the backdoor deals, the lying and manipulating that happens, and the lives affected by the decisions that are made.   It sounds fantastic and I am definitely checking it out.

TNT’s Dallas Remake Set for Summer 2012 Premiere

The Cast of TNT's Dallas Remake

Can you hear the theme song?   Can you remember one of the greatest (if not the greatest) TV cliffhangers of all time….Who Shot JR?   Well it’s official guys and it will be premiering in the Summer 2012 on TNT.

Via the official press release, here is some of the information about the remake:

The new DALLAS stars Josh Henderson (90210), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious),Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), and they will be joined by iconic stars Patrick DuffyLinda Gray and Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of DALLAS, which is slated to premiere in summer 2012.

The original DALLAS aired from 1978 to 1991 and centered on the Ewing family, a cattle and oil dynasty occupying the expansive Southfork Ranch in Texas. A long and bitter rivalry between brothers J.R. Ewing (Hagman) and Bobby Ewing (Duffy) eventually led to J.R. losing control of most of the Ewing industries. In the new DALLAS, this explosive rivalry now lives on through another generation, with the future of the family fortune in the hands of the Ewing offspring: cousins John Ross Ewing (Henderson), the son of J.R. and ex-wife Sue Ellen (Gray), and Christopher Ewing (Metcalfe), the adopted son of Bobby. Brewster stars as Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross. Gonzalo stars as Christopher’s fiancée, Rebecca. And Strong stars as Ann, Bobby’s wife.

TNT will be airing sneak peeks of the new show during tomorrow’s premieres of The Closer and Rizzoli and Isles.  TNT will also have a special website www.dallastnt.com for fans to go and check out video clips and more information about the show leading up to the premiere next summer.

What do you think?   Are you excited about this remake?   I watched the original when I was a little kid (on reruns that is) so I can’t wait for this premiere!  Some remakes have been successful and other have fallen flat on their faces.    So I guess we have to wait and see!
