Cougar Town Returns!!! It’s About Flipping Time.

After the disaster that was Work It, ABC has finally stopped sniffing glue and put Cougar Town back on the schedule.  Cougar Town returns Tuesday February 14th…the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day!   Which is the dumbest holiday on the planet but that’s another story.

Woo hoo!!!  Penny Can!!!!  Big Joe (oops sorry Big Joe died).  Big Carl and the cul-de-sac crew is back and not a moment too soon.  The new comedies this year were awful and it’s about time a real comedy was back on the air.

If you need to find me, you know where I’ll be on Tuesday Feb 14th at 8:30pm.

ABC Renews 6 Shows for 2011-2012 Season

Some early renewal news from ABC courtesy of TV’s Michael Ausiello:

ABC renews Castle, Modern Family, The Middle, Cougar Town, Private Practice, and Grey’s Anatomy for the 2011-2012 TV season.    Yeah!!!!!   Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters were not on that short list.  DH will probably be back mainly depending on the contracts of the main cast, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, and Felicity Huffman.  All the ladies contracts are up for renewal after this season and Marc Cherry already has a deal in place for 2 more seasons of DH.  So I would be shocked if that didn’t come back.

B&S is a little different.  The ratings haven’t been as great and creatively, the show has really gone backwards.  It’s very possible this could be the last season we hang with the Walker family.  I almost wish they could have one more season to go out with a bang because this season is so terrible.   But at the same time, if the creative team really had something more to give the Walker’s in the bank, you’d think they would already be using it.  And if what we are seeing this season is it, then it is time for B&S to go to TV heaven.

What do you think?  Are you happy?  Surprised?  I’m thrilled.

RECAP: CougarTown “All Mixed Up” S2 E1

I’m not going to lie, I was disappointed in the season 2 premiere.  But then again, I was hot and cold with Cougar Town last year.   I started watching CT last year because it is from Bill Lawrence, the genius behind Scrubs.  I watched about 5 episodes and then I stopped because I wasn’t feeling it.   A few weeks later, it was on in the background as my husband and I were working and my husband really enjoyed it and I have to say, I did too.   So I started watching it again and it was much better than I remember.  I didn’t laugh every week the way I did with Scrubs, but I laughed a decent amount of times and it was that mindless comedy that fit the bill Wednesday nights.  The 2 best characters on the show are Jordan (I know her name is Ellie but she will always be Jordan to me) and Bobby.  Andy and Travis are pretty good too but they can have some dud eppies.  Grayson and Jules are fine.  I like Grayson more than Jules but neither really do a whole lot for me.  It’s funny, I really like them sometimes and they have their moments.   But for the most part, eh.  I can’t STAND Laurie.  In particular, when Busy Philipps speaks, it’s like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.  I don’t know if that’s how she normally speaks but if it is, I pity the people around her.   The only thing I like about Laurie, is that it gives Jordan someone to brutalize, and Christa Miller does it beautifully!

This season kicks off with Travis still heading to college, Grayson and Jules still dating, and we learn that Bobby does have a slight issue with that.  It was also the guest star appearance most hyped in the off-season by the media, Jennifer Aniston.  Bonnie was good.  I wasn’t blown away by her appearance but I also thought she was the best part of the episode…what does that tell you.   The best part of the appearance was when Jules was being neurotic about Grayson and went to see Bonnie at her yoga class.  She’s talking to Jordan about how she has such a great connection with Bonnie and how much Bonnie likes her.  Meanwhile Bonnie sees Jules and tries to sneak away and hide herself because she doesn’t want to see Jules.  It results in her getting into a car accident and you start to see just how crazy Bonnie is.   And I know I just ripped Laurie above, but I thought the nicest part of the episode was between her and Travis when she admits (while she thinks he has passed out from a “who can stay awake the longest” competition to prep him for college) that she will miss him when he goes to college and he hears it because he really isn’t sleeping.  It’s moments like that I see signs of a good character from Laurie.   But then she speaks and annoys me all over again.  Oh well.

I really don’t know what to make of this show.  My husband really likes it so we’ll keep watching.  But I hope it starts to get stronger so it’s a little more tolerable.
