2013/2014 Renew/Cancel Tracker

Since we haven’t had the official premieres of new shows, I sincerely hope nothing’s been canceled yet.   You never know.  I mean Boss received a Season 2 pickup before it even premiered.   That worked out well didn’t it?  But I think it’s safe to say that nothing is canceled yet.

So for all those questions about “When is Golden Boy coming back” (it isn’t), you’ll still be able to check last May’s final renewed and canceled shows.   As soon as something gets the ax, that’s when I’ll update it.  I know some shows are already renewed for next year (Glee – as she rolls her eyes) and on their last season (How I Met Your Mother) but I’m still going to wait.

Renew/Cancel Tracker Updated For This TV Season

The Renew/Cancel Tracker is now updated for the 2012/2013 TV Season.

I’ll have up to the minute cancelations and renewals as they come over.  Right now, it’s been relatively slow in that department…compared to last year.

2011/2012 Renew/Cancel Tracker UPDATED

It’s hard to believe that we already have 4 shows canceled and it’s only October 11th!!!  As a result, I updated the Renew/Cancel Tracker and set it up for the 2011/2012 season.

Go to my home page and click on the tab at the top of the page for the most up to date information on which shows are sticking around and which are DOA.  I will also track which shows at this point aren’t looking so good and what is looking prime for renewal.

If I’m missing anything, make sure you let me know!

ABC Pickups

ABC has given full season pickups to No Ordinary Family, Better with You, and Brothers and Sisters.  It also added 5 more episodes of Detroit 1-8-7.   The Whole Truth, as expected, as been canceled but will run it’s full 13 episode order through December.

As I mentioned before, I like the Whole Truth but it never caught on and has been axed at the knees.  With the ratings of Detroit 1-8-7, I’m surprised ABC ordered more episodes.   Maybe the network really likes the show (I know I do) and is hoping it can succeed and turn around the bad ratings.  It would have to see significant gains and I don’t know how it does that.

I’m happy for Better with You.   I like the show and think it is getting better each week.   But this could be a one and done season.  I hope not.   B&S I have always watched and liked but I am starting to grow tired of the Walkers and maybe it’s time for the show to go out on a high note.

I don’t watch No Ordinary Family.  I wanted to, but I forgot to set it up to tape on the DVR and with so much else to watch, I decided to bag it.  I know I can find it on demand and on line but I already have too much to watch.  Unless someone wants to come on here and convince me otherwise.

NBC Pickups

NBC announced back 9 pick ups of The Event, Outsourced, L&O: LA, Chase, and Chuck (Chuck received a back 11!!)   And so far, the only show axed has been Outlaw.

Is this really a win for NBC’s TV season or is their schedule so bad, they had no choice but to pick up these shows?  NBC as a whole, seems to be in the ratings basement every week compared to the big 3 (ABC, NBC, CBS.)  Nothing has really knocked it out of the park but, other than Outlaw, nothing is “The Beautiful Life” either.  I think if The Event, Chase, or Chuck we on ABC or CBS, they would be canceled (so thank God Chuck is on NBC!!!)  It’s pretty sad considering just a few years ago, NBC dominated prime time programming.  Remember shows like Friends, ER, Law and Order, Seinfeld, Frasier, Mad About You, Homicide: Life on the Streets, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Just Shoot Me, Will & Grace, and The West Wing?  In the last 5 years, can you remember NBC launching ANY show that meets these standards (and I don’t mean spinoffs of L&O.)    I remember when NBC was, as their logo suggested “Must See TV.”   Other than Chuck and Parenthood, there is NO must see TV for me on NBC and there hasn’t been in a long time.

So what happened?  Did Jeff Zucker run NBC programming into the ground? (Yes.) Have they just picked bad shows?   (Yes.)  Are they marketing their shows wrong?   (Not sure.)  Did they fall victim to relying WAY too much on reality/variety programming?  (My Dad is Better Than Your Dad/The Jay Leno Show come to mind.)   No matter what the reason or reasons, NBC is really struggling with their programming.  But I will always take weak scripted programming over stupid reality TV any day of the week.  At least NBC is getting away from that.   They just need better shows!
