REVIEW: The Borgias S1 E1-3

I’m sorry but this is going to be really short and to the point.  I did not enjoy this show at all.  I found the first three episodes to be boring, incredibly predictable, and completely lacking in compelling story telling.    Judging by the ratings, none of you really like this show either.

All I kept thinking the whole time I was watching was “why is all of this happening in King Henry’s palace” and “boy I really miss The Tutors!!!”

Needless to say, I won’t be reviewing the Borgias because I won’t be watching it anymore.  I am terribly disappointed because I love historical fiction and I thought from the previews that this show had a lot of promise.   Well I am going to check out Game of Thrones and Camelot instead.  Maybe they’ll be better.

Showtime Sets Some Premiere and Return Dates

“Nurse Jackie” and the “United States of Tara” are set to return on March 28th while Showtime’s new show, The Borgias, is set to premiere on April 3rd.

Can’t wait for The Borgias and check out my earlier post for a premiere clip!

I don’t watch the US of Tara starring the awesome Toni Colette.   But for the fans of the show, I’m sure you’ve been anxiously awaiting its return.  As for Nurse Jackie….ugh.  I think that show is dreadful.  I hate the lead character, I hate her sleazy boy toy, I can’t stand the annoying nurse, and her daughters grate on my nerves.   Her husband and best friend were alright.   But the best person on the show was her gay best friend and from what I understand, he’s gone.  I stopped watching after season 1.  I just have no empathy for Jackie and think she is a horrible human being.  And it pisses me off that she won an Emmy in the category of comedy series.  COMEDY?  Are they serious?   Have that ever watched that show?   That’s like pegging Dexter as a comedy.   There may be some witty humor, but it’s not a comedy.  Even the brilliant Edie Falco, who I hate in this show, said she had no business being in this category because he show is not a comedy.  Well, if you like Nurse Jackie, it’s coming back for season 3.

New Shows: The Borgias

While I was watching my beloved The Tudors come to an end (wiping tears from my eyes) I saw a preview for a new show coming to Showtime in 2011…The Borgias.   Check out Showtime’s quick synopsis on the new show:

Oscar®-winning actor Jeremy Irons will star in the epic drama series as Rodrigo Borgia, the cunning, manipulative patriarch of The Borgia family who ascends to the highest circles of power within Renaissance-era Italy. Additionally, Academy Award® winning director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) will create and executive produce the series as well as direct the first two episodes.

THE BORGIAS will be a complex, unvarnished portrait of one of history’s most intriguing and infamous dynastic families. The series begins as the family’s patriarch Rodrigo (Jeremy Irons), becomes Pope, propelling him, his two Machiavellian sons Cesare and Juan, and his scandalously beautiful daughter, Lucrezia, to become the most powerful and influential family of the Italian Renaissance.

I love historical fiction stories/shows like this!!!  And this will fit the bill nicely since the Tudors are now no longer.  Can I just say that they could have kept that show going and highlighting the rise of Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth.  It would have been incredibly fascinating.  Oh well.  I guess I need to watch The Borgias!!!   There hasn’t been an official premiere date announced yet but as soon as there is, I will let you know.  Preview clip coming soon!!!
