Main Tab Updates

I have already gotten the Renew/Cancel tracker cleared and ready for this season.   As soon as shows are renewed or canceled, I will update.   The 2014 Fall Preview will be updated as I add the individual networks to the main page.  For right now only CBS is up but this week should have the rest of the major networks (not cable.)

The 2014 Premiere Dates have not been updated yet and that will be the last thing updated.   All the individual networks reviews will have premiere dates next to the shows.  So until that tab is updated, you can find premiere dates there.

BREAKING NEWS: FOX Renews Several Shows

From TV Line, looks like FOX is getting in the renewal mood a little early this year.    Three comedies were just renewed and one drama:

  • New Girl
  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine
  • The Mindy Project
  • The Following

I’m always happy for renewed shows because people are keeping their jobs.  I’m even more excited when it means my favorites are coming!!!

The one that has me the most excited on this list is Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  I have loved this show from the minute it aired.  Funny, well written, perfectly cast…this show was tight right out of the gate…which is a challenge for new ensemble comedies.  I was worried because the ratings weren’t good and it was looking bad for cancellation.  Then the Hollywood Foreign Press did me a solid and gave B99 the Golden Globe for Best Comedy.   And they were right on.   Since then, people have checked out the show and if you haven’t, what is wrong with you?  Do you not like sharp, witty TV shows?   Well, I’ll give you a second chance and HIGHLY encourage you to check it out over the summer so you can be ready for the fall.

Of course New Girl and The Following make me happy since those are on my must view list.  I don’t watch The Mindy Project and this renewal surprises me a lot because the ratings are bad and people who I have talked to who have seen the show say it’s pretty bad.  I watched the pilot and 2nd episode and it didn’t do anything for me so it was bumped.   But for those that do, congrats that your crappy show is still on the air!  I say crappy with all due respect of course.

So great news right??   Are you happy about these shows?   Surprised?   Pissed Enlisted isn’t on here?  Worried for Almost Human?    May is a long way away for bubble shows.

TV News and Thoughts

Recently Canceled

Lucky 7
Murder Police
We Are Men

Recently Renewed

Sleepy Hollow

Full Season Pick Ups

The Blacklist
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD

Additional Scripts Ordered

Dads
The Originals
The Tomorrow People
Reign

I don’t think anyone is surprised that Lucky 7 and We Are Men were already canceled.  Awful shows with awful ratings usually do it every time.   I am THRILLED to see that Sleepy Hollow was already picked up for Season 2.  Shows like that have been hit or miss and this show has been a huge hit.   Great writing, great cast = sure-fire renewal.  Also very happy to see The Blacklist and SHIELD getting full season pick ups.   Their shows and fan bases are strong and I don’t see any reason these won’t be renewed for a second season.

But Dads?   Really?  I just read that the mid-season comedy Us & Them starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel, just got cut from its original 13 episode order to 6 and that’s all that will be produced.   The reason?   because the “geniuses” at FOX were concerned over the tone of the show.   It’s not as “edgy” as the other comedies it has on the air and therefore they don’t think it will do well.  Let me get this straight.  The network that brings you “edgy” comedies like Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and the Mindy Project, which are all failing and certain to be canceled by the end of the season if not before, doesn’t want to take a chance on a softer comedy because it doesn’t fit the tone of the network?   The only “edgy” comedy working is New Girl.  The other ones are failing brutally.   So why wouldn’t you want to try something with a different tone and see if it works?  It certainly has the cast to draw an audience.  It was the buzz of the upfronts and “off-season” so why not try it?   I’m no network exec but that seems ludicrous to me.  But now that they’ve cut the show from 13 to 6, ostensibly canceling it, no one will bother with it and therefore the ratings will be bad and FOX can say “see, a show like this won’t work.”  A show like that won’t work because you morons didn’t support it and pulled before giving it a chance.

What are your thoughts?  Happy with the renewals and full season orders?   Upset with the early cancellations? Sound off below!

2013/2014 Renew/Cancel Tracker

Since we haven’t had the official premieres of new shows, I sincerely hope nothing’s been canceled yet.   You never know.  I mean Boss received a Season 2 pickup before it even premiered.   That worked out well didn’t it?  But I think it’s safe to say that nothing is canceled yet.

So for all those questions about “When is Golden Boy coming back” (it isn’t), you’ll still be able to check last May’s final renewed and canceled shows.   As soon as something gets the ax, that’s when I’ll update it.  I know some shows are already renewed for next year (Glee – as she rolls her eyes) and on their last season (How I Met Your Mother) but I’m still going to wait.

Renew/Cancel Tracker UPDATED

The renew/cancel tracker is now updated with all the renewals and cancellations through May 1 2013.  Remember on my tracker, only if it’s officially announced as canceled or renewed, will the show be on the list.    We all know Smash isn’t coming back but no official cancellation has come out so I will wait for that (plus I’m holding out some hope!)

Renewals I’m Happy/Thrilled About:

  • Parenthood
  • Grimm
  • The Good Wife
  • Elementary
  • Blue Bloods
  • The Following
  • Arrow
  • Person of Interest

The one I’m most excited for is Parenthood.   This is a show that’s been on the bubble I think every season it’s been on the air and this is the first season the ratings were strong enough that it was pretty secure for a renewal.  What I was even MORE thrilled about is that is was renewed not just for 15 episodes (like it had been) but the FULL 22 episode season!!!!   I couldn’t be happier for the cast and crew because that is seriously one of the best written and acted shows on TV.  I feel the same way about The Good Wife and I’m so excited it’s coming back.  I’m hearing rumors it may be moved to Friday nights….FANTASTIC because Sundays were killing me!!!!   And not because I can’t stay up to watch it but because all the sports on CBS (NFL football), March Madness, The Masters, etc would always delay the start and screw up my DVR.   Plus, poor The Mentalist, I haven’t watched it all season because it’s time slot was basically The Good Wife for most of the season.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m the biggest sports fan you’ll meet.   But that scheduling didn’t do either show any justice.   Plus Blue Bloods and The Good Wife on Fridays makes me VERY happy!!!

Renewals I’m Scratching My Head About:

  • Glee
  • Two and a Half Men
  • Beauty & the Beast
  • CSI

So not only was the abomination that is Glee renewed for next season, it was renewed for TWO seasons!   I really don’t get it.    That show is atrocious!!!!!  And the ratings are getting worse every season.   The only thing I can think of is that it was a deal Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck made with FOX to get it renewed and that Season 6 will be its last season.   One can hope!

Cancellations I’m Most Upset About:

  • Ben & Kate
  • Last Resort
  • Smash (assuming it’s officially canceled)

Upfronts will be here before you know it.   Every thing will be official at that point.   Really the big network we’re waiting on is ABC because FOX, The CW, NBC, and CBS have renewed and canceled most of their shows with the exception of a handful still out there.   So ABC will be the big one.

FOX Renews Bones for a 9th Season

I’m not sure if this news is good or bad to Bones fans but Fox has renewed Bones for a 9th season.   More stories for Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz and crew for another season to come!!!

I’m a Bones fan but even I’ll admit it’s starting to get a bit….tired.  The one storyline that gets my heart pumping, which they’ve done a terrific job with, is the Pelant storyline.  I’m hoping they revisit it soon because it’s been since the premiere that they’ve touched on it.   While Bones was awesome in its heyday, it’s really been marginal since.  And it has nothing to do with Bones and Booth now being a couple, it’s just I feel like I’ve gotten to know all I need to know from these characters…with the exception of Cam (who I love.)  I feel as though I’m just watching them go through their lives solving crimes and nothing more.  There’s nothing wrong with that, but with all there is to watch on TV, it doesn’t really get me going either…other than the Pelant story.

So what do you all think?  Are you excited for the renewal or are you ready to let Bones rest in peace?

Renew/Cancel Tracker Updated For This TV Season

The Renew/Cancel Tracker is now updated for the 2012/2013 TV Season.

I’ll have up to the minute cancelations and renewals as they come over.  Right now, it’s been relatively slow in that department…compared to last year.

2012/2013 Renew/Cancel Tracker

Since the new TV season hasn’t officially started yet, I am going to leave the 2011/2012 Renew/Cancel Tracker where it is for now.  I know many people who, even after all this time, still might not be aware if their show was renewed or canceled.  And for the last two years have gotten at least one “Where is Lie to Me?”  “Was Harry’s Law canceled?”  So for those people who are looking for those answers, I will leave it up until the first show gets canceled.  (Hopefully that won’t be within the first two weeks!)

I’ll shoot out a new post when it’s been updated for this season.
